TWENTY FIVE

Twenty- five years...

Twenty-five years – TWENTY-FIVE YEARS! How did that happen?

25 years of guiding, coaching, training, assessing, climbing, mountaineering, cycling, stretching, management development, project designing, technical advising, consulting…

25 years of visiting amazing places around Wales, the UK and the other side of the world…

…but most of all, 25 years of meeting great, like-minded individuals who love to be active and explore the outdoors and to develop their own skills and personal qualities

Thank you to everyone that I have met over the years!

Here are some of the special projects and events that happened to celebrate this milestone…

Mentoring partnership

There have been many people over the years who have given me inspiration, teaching, support and encouragement, to allow me to be where I am today.

To celebrate manzoku’s 25th birthday, I felt that it was important to put some of those gifts back into the mix.

Working with The Outdoor Partnership, I found a perfect partner to offer free mentoring to a selection of young people, just starting out on their careers in the outdoors.

The 6-month programme included:

  • NGB award training
  • further experience in climbing and mountaineering
  • assisting on programmes
  • developing teaching/coaching skills and an identity as an instructor
  • provide networking opportunities

I hoped that, through this scheme, I might be able to provide some level of inspiration, teaching, support and encouragement to the new kids on the block!

Supporting our local legends

In partnership with Llangorse Climbing Centre, we have spent time seeking out and celebrating our Local Legends!

For 3 winter seasons, we put on a series of evening lectures (with food!) to showcase the exploits and adventures of outdoor people, local to the South Wales area.

These are people quietly ‘getting on with the job’ of enjoying the outdoors but achieving some quite amazing adventures.

They included mountaineers, climbers, mountain marathon runners, ultra fell runners and our own “Swiss Family Robinson” – the Tiernan family – showing us how adventure doesn’t need to stop when little ones come along!

The proceeds of these lectures went to our favourite Local Legends – Brecon Mountain Rescue Team – who look after us day in, day out.

I was happy to add my own contribution with a donation to celebrate manzoku’s twenty-fifth birthday.
