About Us

Andy Cummingsmanzoku was started in 1997 by Andy Cummings with the aim of helping you enjoy the mountains and crags of the UK and come home safely from your many adventures.  As a team of mountaineers, hill walkers and climbers we’re constantly developing our courses to give you the best training on offer.

Andy Cummings – the founder of manzoku, Andy started climbing with friends on the crags and quarries of South Wales in the early ’80s and has a handful of first ascents to his name.  His climbing career covers all styles of climbing – E6 on trad, 7b+ sport, F7b bouldering and alpine routes.

Andy’s hill walking and mountaineering has taken him throughout the UK.  Recent highlights include guiding a party on a 6-day walk across the high points of Snowdonia and a blue-sky day with a client on Scafell Pike.

“I love the mental as well as the physical challenge of climbing and mountaineering.  Stand-out routes for me include the technical Poetry Pink in the Llanberis Slate Quarries and the challenging Suicide Wall in Cwm Idwal – an aptly named route!  Its E2 grade belies the serious consequences of a mistake.”

Recently Andy has turned his attention to endurance projects such as his Backbone Cymru Ride in aid of Spinal Research covering a route from Caernarfon to Cardiff by road bike with quick runs over the summits of Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan along the way – all in a day!
Ultimately Andy has a passion for outdoor activity – climbing, hill walking, mountaineering, telemark skiing, ski touring, road cycling, mountain biking – but his greatest love is sharing it with others, allowing them to experience the outdoors safely and with a smile on their face!

Paul Williams – a qualified Mountain Leader, Paul is never happier than being in the great outdoors with a camera to his eye!  His love of the landscape and bird life sees him out in all weathers to make photographs.  He brings this passion and experience to our mountain-based courses.

Morgan Preece – there isn’t much that Morgan doesn’t know about climbing walls and how to climb on them!  A top-level boulderer, he can also be found in the bouldering hotspots of the UK and Europe, escaping from the indoor wall environment to recharge his batteries!  Morgan works on our technical climbing wall services and our indoor climbing wall programme.

Dan Roberts – Dan holds a Sport and Exercise Science degree and uses this experience in his climbing wall coaching work.  He, too, enjoys escaping the indoor world and is working his way through the sport and trad grades!  Dan brings his fitness development and climbing coaching experience to our indoor programme.

Carolyn Cummings – Sharing many adventures and a passion for the outdoors, Carolyn brings a wealth of administration experience to manzoku, along with a safe pair of hands on a climbing rope and a strong pair of legs on a tandem!

Llangorse Multi-Activity Centre – manzoku works closely with this Centre as its Technical Advisor.  We also use its excellent facilities to host many of our courses both indoor and out.

Storey Arms Outdoor Education Centre – We also work with the Storey Arms Centre on joint provision of climbing and hill walking programmes.

Brecon Beacons National Park – As a National Park and Geopark Ambassador manzoku has partnered with Brecon Beacons National Park to deliver their Navigation and Safety on the Hills programmes.
